Acquiring Competencies

Presentation Development | Tusks at Dusk

In today's immersive visually driven media culture, people are becoming more and more visually sophisticated. Therefore, it is critical for companies to showcase strong uses of visual elements such as design and typography to capture the target audience. The goal is to differentiate oneself from the competition by communicating effective and cohesive messaging throughout the brand's media presence.

A brand event presentation, directed at the target audience, was created to entice possible attendees to join the event and to support the elephant conservation cause. The presentation was also developed to elicit emotional response towards elephants. The information provided is minimal, yet strategic and inspiring, while the graphics incorporate static and dynamic elements. Refining the amount of information, as well as content, creates concise yet powerful narration to support the visuals and keep the flow of the presentation moving.

In regards to acquiring competencies, this presentation tested a multitude of abilities. To develop a worthy presentation, program knowledge was tested and heightened.  The creation of this presentation involved Apple Key Note and learning how to use the program to infuse the desired dynamic elements, including video and animation integration. The animations were developed piece by piece in Adobe After Effects while the animated and illustrated images were designed in Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Photoshop was used to enhance and modify specific images to create the cohesive scrapbook and paper elements while the narration and music was created through the use of Apple Key Note and Garage Band. Combining these programs and enhancing ideas from static to dynamic led to a powerful brand event presentation. The knowledge gained from creating this presentation can and will be used to benefit companies in other differentiating ways.

Mood board Development | Tusks at Dusk

Relevant promotional work for any company is only effective if it is cohesive and does not confuse the viewer. To maintain consistency of the brand's media, designers develop mood boards or themes.

The mood board was created to keep the design elements of the Tusks at Dusk event brand one one accord. All media pieces convey the same graphic elements and color palettes. This mood board was developed through the use of different Adobe programs including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. Each program had something unique to offer to the project's development. Everything in the mood board has been manipulated or created to best suit the needs of the client in hopes of reaching the intended target audience.

Logo Development | Tusks at Dusk

The goal of this logo concept is to eliminate elements that resemble clipart and to convey the brand's messaging in a contemporary and modest design. The logo was created in Adobe Illustrator where it became evident that the pen tool was going to be a necessary part of the process.

Initially, the logo exhibited a number of sharp points and jagged lines, undermining the natural and organic brand attributes of the event. Adding curvilinear lines, allow for the design to flow more and convey an elephant head verses that of any other animal. The shapes of the shadows have been manipulated to become rounded as well, in an attempt to match the feel of the elephant. The result is more peaceful and less painful, but still a minimal image with an iconic feel.

Mastering Adobe Illustrator was critical in this stage of logo design. The pen tool is a friend, not a foe. After understanding the use of simple program tools and reviewing tutorial after tutorial, the possibilities for logo design seemed limitless and several designs were thought of, but not established before reaching this iconic design.
